How To Make Polarized 3d Glasses
Build your own RealD 3D Theater
Learn how to build your ain total-color 3D theater using this tutorial.
Components you need:
2 Projectors
2 Polarizing Filters (linear or circular) and matching Cicular/Linear Polarized Glasses
Silver Screen
Computer for playback
Software (VLC for Mac or Stereoscopic Actor PC)
DVI to HDMI Cables (optional)
Overview – The way this arrangement works is, you project two images, one for each eye, onto a screen. The light of each prototype is polarized to match a pair of spectacles that the viewer wears. The lenses filter each video out leaving each middle viewing 1 of the two images. A special silver screen preserves the polarization of the lite. This is very close to the system used in the theaters today and tin fifty-fifty work with RealD spectacles. Notation- this set-up requires stereoscopic source cloth. It will not convert 2nd movies to 3D.
Projectors – The get-go thing you lot demand is a couple projectors; it would be cracking if they matched but they don't take to. The resolutions don't have to lucifer either but it will probably brand your life easier. The of import role is that you tin match the ii played back images perfectly. Information technology's also good to get as bright of projectors equally you tin. There are two sets of filters involved and each volition cut down the low-cal. I used Infocus Projectors and I'm very happy with the result. One other note – Nosotros've been using a pair of DVI-to-HDMI Cables to connect the computer to the projectors. The computer had trouble seeing the projectors at the aforementioned resolution and these cables solved the problem.
Silver Screen - Aim both projectors at your silver screen (Y'all can go yours from eitherAwater3D orStrongMDI, I've used both and they are great). Get both images to overlap perfectly. I used a focus chart for one projector and an inverted focus chart for the other. This makes aligning the images easier. You have to use a silver screen otherwise the images will loose their polarization when they reflect and the filters on the spectacles will not work. Other options include silver screen pigment (which we have not tried, supposedly works but you demand to apply to a very flat surface and use a sprayer). Vintage silvery screens will as well work, the image looks peachy and you lot can observe them for as petty as $twenty online.
Filters– Next, you'll need a set of polarizing filters. You lot accept two options here: yous can get two linear polarizers such every bitthese or a set of circular polarizers such equally these fromAwater 3D or these fromAmerican Polarizers. I've used both and they are first-class. Circular Polarizers will lucifer Real D glasses while linear require their own glasses -such as these.
Align the filters -
Linear polarizers work at 45° to each other. Most likely y'all'll need to tip each filter like a diamond to marshal it correctly. Y'all tin can hold it upward to a pair of linear 3D glasses to check alignment. It should blackness out i heart and allow light pass through the other. Do the opposite for the opposite eye.
Circular Polarizers work differently. They take a front and back and a left and right. Again use your round polarized spectacles to test the orientation of each filter. I've used filters from both Awater3D and American Polarizers, each are not bad and come labeled. If at that place is a notable loss in resolution when the filter is applied check to see that yous have removed all the protective laminates that come on the filters.
Playback – Stereoscopic Movies come in several formats. Still, they all operate nether the aforementioned principal: show the viewer two different movies at the same fourth dimension, i per eye. To do this, ii separate videos are played back at the same fourth dimension, either every bit contained video files of squished together into either a side-past-side or over-under format. Each playback method requires special software.
For Macs - useVLC Thespian – File> Advanced Open File> Play Some other Media Synchronously. I've used this to watch xc minutes of stereo content with perfect sync. note – information technology's not easy to jump around with VLC actor. Y'all pretty much have to hit play and watch. You can also configure it to playback Side-by-side movies using the wall filter. This is pretty tricky merely works great in one case set-up.
For PCs –Stereoscopic Player is the software to use. There are other freeware options out there but I haven't tried them. They seem to get very piffling use – it'due south up to y'all what y'all want to utilize.
That'south everything you need. Respond below and I'll do my best to answer any questions you have. Practiced Luck!
